한국에서 출시된다는 르노삼성의 QMX의 형제. 닛산이 한국시장에 진출하면 내놓을 가능성이 있는 모델로 세단에서는 Altima를 SUV에서는 미드사이즈의 Murano, 소형 크로스오버로는 로그(Rogue)가 언급됐다. 내년이면 국내 시장에서 구입할 수도 있다는 이야기 (참조: 닛산 대중브랜드의 진출). 게다가 르노-닛산 협력의 산물이라는 QMX도 로그를 기본으로 한 모델. 따라서 QMX의 가솔린엔진 모델은 이 녀석을 빼닮을 가능성이 많으므로 천천히 리뷰하다 보면, 전체적인 QMX의 감도 잡히지 않을까?
대체적으로 전문가들은 로그(Rogue)가 CR-V보다 낫다고 평가. 다만, 무단변속기(CVT)에 대해서는 믿음직스런 평을 유보하는 듯 하다. 아직 무단변속기가 확실한 성공을 보여주지 못했다는 의미인 듯하다, 로그의 무단변속기는 실패한 센트라와 성공한 알티마의 중간이라는 어중간한 평가를 내놓고 있기 때문이다.

Nissan goes after the Honda CR-V with a new compact crossover

Is a car company trying too hard to attract younger buyers when it names its new compact crossover after an X-Men character? 로그란 이름은 X맨에서 따온 것 Well yes it would be, but that's not the case with the 2008 Nissan Rogue, which makes its debut at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show. According to Nissan, the name Rogue was chosen to reflect "its independence-oriented positioning." Not sure what that means, but at least they didn't call it the Wolverine.

With four SUVs in its lineup already, Nissan doesn't exactly need another people mover. But unlike the Xterra, which is geared toward the occasionally clean, extreme-sports crowd, the Rogue is a more sophisticated compact crossover 험로주행을 위한 Xterra와 달리, 로그는 세련된 도심형 크로스오버차량 according to Bill Bosley, general manager of Nissan division. Two trim levels will be offered, but only one engine and transmission combination. Its fully independent suspension uses coil springs and struts up front, along with an antiroll bar. In back, Nissan used a multilink setup instead of struts to maximize cargo space in the interior. Antilock disc brakes are standard along with stability control, traction control and 16-inch steel wheels.

Although the Rogue will start around $20,000 when it goes on sale in the fall of 2007, it will offer a long list of high-tech options for those who aren't afraid to edge closer to the $25K mark. There's no third-row seat option, 3열시트 옵션은 없어 but if you need more room for cargo you can get a flat-folding front-passenger seat. There's also a pop-up cargo organizer in back with a washable tray underneath for storing stuff too dirty to put on the carpet. Nissan says it tried to "add a new dimension to the small crossover utility segment" by making the Rogue satisfy both the functional and emotional needs of buyers. Sounds like a line we've heard before, but with ample horsepower, slick styling and plenty of high-end options, the Rogue may deliver on the promise better than many of its competitors. If that's what Nissan meant by "independence-oriented positioning," the Rogue will do just fine.
Review 1. Good Interior SUV with CVT transmission

For years, Nissan has sat and watched from the sidelines as Honda, Ford and Toyota have ruled the compact SUV segment. Now the Japanese company is jumping into the game with its all-new Rogue, a car that, even in its rookie season, seems ready for the pro-bowl.

Styling 스타일

If I see one more SUV with sharp, upswept rear-quarter windows, I'll know it's time to start applying for jobs in automakers' design departments, seeing as they obviously can't come up with anything better. 요즈음 디자인은 비슷비슷 The Rogue is yet another victim of this hackneyed design, but surprisingly the generic profile glass doesn't lead to significant blind spots here like it does in some competitors. 로그도 비슷하지만 경쟁차종도 크게 다르지 않아 Besides the bland styling in the car's profile, the Rogue does stand out as a thoroughly Nissan product.

The front end resembles the larger Murano SUV, which helps the Rogue's "Nissan-ness," but the rear definitely stands out on its own and falls decidedly on the attractive end of the design scale. 앞은 뮤라노 스타일 Large, 17-inch wheels on the SL add to the athletic stance, as does the Rogue's low height compared to its competition. 높이는 경쟁차종보다 낮아

That height doesn't cut into headroom, but the design inside creates a cockpit feel that's more akin to a sports car than the airy feel of an SUV. That's intentional, and when driving a black-leather-equipped Rogue SL, I definitely had flashbacks to a recent drive in the sportier Altima coupe.

Interior 내부

The interior is one of the Rogue's highpoints. It's almost up to the level of the Honda CR-V, and that's saying a lot. It joins the new Saturn Vue on my list of runners-up to the Honda, and it certainly outshines the Toyota RAV4, Mitsubishi Outlander and Ford Escape. 실내 사양에서는 토요타 RAV4, 미츠비시 outlander, 포드 Escape를 앞서고 CR-V에 근접 Visually, it all starts with the gauges, which are clear and easy to read. Between the two main gauges is a digital readout for fuel, the trip computer and other information, which is a nice touch. The subtle amber hue of the readouts is repeated throughout the cabin on the gauges and stereo.

I drove Rogues with both cloth and leather interiors. 천시트 실내와 가죽시트 모두를 시승 The cloth seats are surprisingly supportive, made of a sturdy material that I don't imagine will wear much over the first few years of ownership. The leather, of course, was a step up, and in black with red stitching it resembled a 350Z. This goes a long way toward Nissan's goal of aiming the Rogue at more of a male demographic than the female-heavy demo Honda looks for. That said, I don't think a sporty interior would be a turnoff to any women I know.

The Rogue has plenty of headroom, hip room and legroom, especially in the rear seat. I rode in a Hummer H3 taxi cab the day before I tested the Rogue, and the seats in Nissan's compact SUV had much better thigh support than the Hummer's, despite the Rogue being a smaller vehicle.

The only major drawback on the inside was the monstrous glove box door. 실내의 유일한 단점은 큼지막한 글로브박스 In the ever-escalating — and needless — glove box wars, manufacturers keep trying to one-up each other on the size of the tried-and-true interior storage compartment. Some design glove boxes to fit laptop computers, while others add an MP3 connector and cubby. Nissan's is more than a foot deep and could fit most purses or a large first-aid kit. The problem? The door of the glove box is so low it's nearly impossible for it not to bang the passenger in the shins. If you scoot the seat back so it doesn't bang your legs, it's impossible to reach into the box itself. That's one oversight in an otherwise perfectly executed interior.

Performance 성능

As in the CR-V, Nissan decided to offer just one engine and transmission combination for the Rogue. 한 가지 가솔린 엔진만 제공 That engine is a 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder that outdoes both the CR-V and four-cylinder RAV4 in terms of horsepower, and you'll feel it when you stomp on the accelerator. Toyota offers an optional V-6 for the RAV4, and the Outlander only comes with V-6 power. The Rogue's engine mates with a continuously variable automatic transmission, and the SUV is available with either front-wheel drive or front-biased all-wheel drive. 엔진에 연동되는 미션은 CVT

There has been much debate over the application of CVTs in various models among different automakers. CVT 미션에 대해서는 논란이 많아. Some work well, others don't. For the most part, it's been the teaming of a powerful engine with a CVT that has impressed me, like in the new Altima. Those that have failed are the economical, four-cylinder-powered cars, like the Nissan Sentra and Dodge Caliber. 알티마의 경우는 성공한 경우이지만, 니싼 센트라 (크로스오버 로그의 기본이 된 세단)와 닷지 캘리버의 경우는 실패한 사례 The Rogue falls somewhere between those two extremes. 로그는? 그 중간 정도

The engine certainly has enough power to live up to the sporty image the company is aiming for, and under hard acceleration it comes to life with a healthy roar that's not the norm in a four-cylinder-powered cute-ute. 동종 SUV에서는 기준이 아닌 충분한 출력의 엔진 Nissan has also added shift paddles and manual shifting to the CVT in the Rogue's SL trim. 고급모델인 SL에서는 수동 기어변속패들러를 스티어링에 장치 Because it doesn't have gears like a conventional automatic, a CVT never really "shifts," but the transmission's software can create the sensation of shifting, and the result is pretty impressive; it feels like a regular automatic transmission with a manual-shift feature.

When cresting hills, I felt the lack of power a few times that most drivers associate with a four-cylinder. Luckily, even when in Drive you can use the shift paddles to get a quick downshift, then let the car take over again; it will reset itself to Drive after a few seconds of continuous speed. I found this feature extremely beneficial and imagine it will be a favorite of commuters who are constantly stuck behind slow-moving traffic.

The Rogue also lived up to its sporty roots in the handling department. 핸들링에서는 스포티함을 느낄 수 있어 While the steering felt loose at low speeds, it really tightened up the faster I went. 저속에서는 다소 느슨함이 느껴지지만 빨라질수록 묵직해져 I was tuned into the turns on windy roads, and the feel of the wheel was dead-on. Road and wind noise was minimal, and the suspension provided a soft ride, which many "sporty" SUVs abandon for a firmer one. I don't understand why some manufacturers seem to think an SUV needs to feel like a sports car in the ride department, and after hitting a stretch of pothole-filled roads I was very glad Nissan feels the same way.

The Rogue had very little body lean for an SUV, but it's probably still not up to the level of the Outlander. Even so, the Rogue is probably the best all-around performer in the four-cylinder class. 4기통 등급에서는 최상의 올라운드플레이어

Over roughly 200 miles of mixed highway and two-lane-road driving, averaging around 35 mph, the Rogue's trip computer told me it was getting 23.7 mpg, right between the 21/26 mpg (city/highway) EPA estimate for the all-wheel-drive model I was testing. Utility 유용성

As far as SUVs go, there isn't much that's mind-blowing about the Rogue's storage capabilities. 공간 활용성은 별반 큰 이점이 없어 The cargo area with the rear seats up is an unimpressive 28.9 cubic feet. On paper that's less than many in the class, but when you see it in person you can't really imagine needing much more. The low, sloping roof contributes to the smaller cargo capacity. 낮은 높이와 뒤로 내려가는 디자인 특성상 뒷 공간은 더욱 작아져 The rear seats fold mostly flat with the pull of a knob next to each head restraint. It's a simple setup that I prefer to the cumbersome methods employed in the CR-V and Outlander. With the seats down, cargo expands to 57.9 cubic feet, but it would be nice if the extended floor was truly flat. 뒷좌석이 완전히 접혀지지는 않아

Besides that cumbersome glove box, there's a cubby in the center console with an insert for CDs and other junk we all live with in our cars. Two cupholders up front and two in back handle most drink sizes you can imagine, from 32-ounce fountain drinks to skinny water bottles. There's a purse hook on the back of the passenger seat; it's a nice thought, but only the skinniest of straps will fit on it. One of my wife's behemoth bags would be resigned to the rear floor. Similar hooks reside in the cargo area for grocery bags, which makes more sense. 장바구니를 걸 수 있는 고리

Another nifty feature in the cargo area is a little divider that pops up from the carpeted floor. This is one of the most skilled, simple innovations I've seen in a small SUV. 소형 SUV에서는 보기 힘든 물건적재함을 화물 바닥에 설치하고 있고, 쉽게 떼어낼 수도 있어 The hidden compartment has three dividers that can easily be removed, so a quick trip to the grocery store won't result in eggplants and onions rolling all over the place. I'd hazard a guess that you could get about 10 lightly packed plastic grocery bags in this pop-up cubby. Plus, it has a removable, washable plastic bottom.

Safety 안전

Like many new 2008 vehicles, the Rogue comes loaded with a bevy of standard safety features. Electronic stability control, front seat active head restraints, antilock brakes and a tire pressure monitoring system are standard, along with side torso airbags in front and side curtain airbags for both rows of seats. Nissan has a winner on its hands. The only thing that may fail to totally turn people on is its middle-of-the-road exterior styling. 가장 큰 약점은 어중간한 스타일. Review 2. Sentra's Jeep rather than crossover

On occasion the process works and a member of the auto industry comes up with a new vehicle name that's tantalizing.

Chalk one up for Nissan. It calls its compact crossover derived from the Sentra sedan Rogue, a devilishly delightful moniker. 기반은 닛산 센트라 (일명 블루버드실피, 국내 SM3의 원형) More so when compared to RAV4 from Toyota or CR-V from Honda -- bor-ing.

Rogue is a great-sit-up-and-take-notice name that doesn't put you to sleep like the MK XYZ nomenclature over at Lincoln.

Of course, it takes a little more than a cute name to win folks over, especially because RAV4 and CR-V are well established, and Rogue is just one of a long line of intenders seeking to capitalize on the interest in a replacement for a sport-utility that does better on mileage and doesn't look like a minivan.로그는 좀 더 나은 연비를 내면서도 미니밴으로 보이지 않을 SUV를 찾는 사람들에게 딱!

Rogue is offered in front- or all-wheel-drive in S or SL trim, but with only a 2.5-liter, 170-horsepower 4-cylinder with one of those continuously variable automatic transmissions -- or do you say CVT? That's the one with an infinite number of gear ratios to match conditions whether the road is flat or hilly, the cabin full or empty or your foot floats like a feather or falls like lead on the gas pedal.

With a CVT you don't feel the shift points when moving through the gears. Traditionalists used to waiting to hear or feel the tranny upshift after kicking the pedal hard to get ahead of the pack will need to adjust to the new seamless and soundless technology.

Rogue isn't a barn burner. 로그는 깜짝 놀랄만한 녀석은 아니야 It's not that the 2.5 sputters down the merger ramp. It's just that the 4 is being asked to put more than 3,400 pounds in motion and that takes some effort. Can't fault the 4 for its mileage rating -- 21 m.p.g. city/26 m.p.g. highway, especially since we tested the all-wheel-drive version that pays a slight fuel penalty for all-seasonality. But it would be nice if the 4 cylinder was a touch quieter, especially at launch from the light. Consumers will tolerate more commotion in an SUV than a crossover. 크로스오버가 아닌 SUV에서는 보다 많은 소음을 감수해야 If automakers can make V-6 engines with the power of a V-8, why can't they make a 4 with the quiet of a V-6?

FWD or AWD, Rogue boasts stability control with yaw sensors as standard to limit lateral fidgeting. 차체자세제어장치 The suspension is tuned more for soft, bounce- and irritation-free motoring than pinpoint handling. 써스펜션은 정확함보다 부드러운 핸들링에 초점 Take a corner at speed and stability, as well as traction, control works to prevent slipping or sliding. But they don't keep the sidewalls from feeling as if they are scuffing the pavement. There's a pronounced lean to those 16-inch all-season radials in turns.

Though compact sized, Rogue has good room for four adults or two adults and a couple rug rats. 캠팩트사이즈의 로그는 4명의 성인에게 충분한 공간을 제공 Cloth seats are a tad firm and side bolsters a little narrow but there's plenty of room to stretch front or rear. A nice touch is the generous cargo room behind the second-row seat. 탁월한 부분은 2열좌석 뒤의 공간 Should you need more, the seat backs lower with a pull of a lever. The lever is easy to reach and use so there's no fear of physical injury or mussing your clothes.

Speaking of clothes, kudos to Nissan for adding a pull-down hook on the back of the front seat that can hold coat or sweater or the dry cleaning. Neat. Or, it can hold the plastic bag from the grocery store. Other nice touches include holders for the iPod and cell phone -- as well as cups.

We tested the base S version, which starts at $20,450 with AWD, an on-demand system that directs torque front or rear depending on wheel slippage detected. FWD starts at $19,250.

The S is nicely equipped but aimed at the price-sensitive consumer. 기본형은 가격에 민감한 소비자를 겨냥 Air conditioning, power mirrors/windows/locks and keyless entry are standard, but seats and liftgate are manually operated. And options are limited. 결과적으로 기본형의 경우 옵션도 거의 없어

The top-of-the-line SL starts at $20,670 with FWD and $21,870 with AWD and offers not only more standard equipment but also more options. 옵션은 고급형에서만 제공

Standard equipment includes 17-inch, all-season radials; body-colored, sideview mirrors; privacy glass; roof rails; seatback pockets; center console; visor vanity mirrors; and a washable and portable tray below the cargo floor to hold wet or dirty gear, tools or clothes. 고급형의 기본사양에는 기본형 사양 이외에 17인치 알로이휠, 차체와 동일한 색상의 사이드미러, 프라이빗(썬팅처리) 뒷좌석창문, 지붕 루프랙, 포터블 물건적재함 등등이 있다.

The SL also offers an optional premium package at $2,200 that includes AM/FM/CD changer, Bluetooth hands-free phone, foldable cargo organizer (basically a pop-up plastic basket under the cargo floor to keep stuff from rolling around), paddle shifters and satellite radio. Power moonroof adds $800, and leather package with leather seats, power driver's seat, Homelink receiver and rearview mirror compass runs $1,800. None of these items is available on the S.

Nissan won't say how many it expects to sell, but since it doesn't offer a compact crossover now, any sales would be plus business, more so if it keeps a customer out of a RAV4 or CR-V.

Review 3. Tall Wagon of Nissan

One of the few remaining holes in the Nissan/Infiniti lineup is filled for 2008, with the all-new Nissan Rogue, a compact SUV. Yes, Nissan has the Xterra, but there's a difference: The Xterra is a truck-based SUV, while the Rogue is a car-based "crossover."

Bottom line: If you need rugged, off-road capability, get an Xterra. If you want a kinder, gentler station wagon that you don't have to call a station wagon, get the Rogue. 니싼 차종에서 오프로드를 원한다면 Xterra가, 부드러운 스테이션왜건을 원하지만 스테이션왜건이라 부르고 싶지 않다면 (*이런 의미에서 크로스오버 SUV를 키가 높은 왜건이라 부르기도 한다) 로그가 있다

Arriving so late to the party, the Rogue is, as you would expect, nicely conceived, but doesn't really advance the concept beyond its current and very capable competition, such as the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Mitsubishi Outlander and Ford Escape. 잘 빠진 차지만 기존의 개념을 뛰어넘지는 못해 Nonetheless it's a good-looking, very comfortable vehicle, priced attractively enough to make crossover customers take notice. 매력적인 가격

The lone engine/transmission is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 170 horsepower; you like it in the Altima, you'll love it in the Rogue. 알티마에 얹어진 170마력의 2.5리터 4기통 엔진 Not surprisingly, the transmission is a CVT, or continuously variable transmission, which works like an automatic but has an infinite number of gear ratios, instead of four, or five, or six. Nissan did not invent the CVT but has certainly become the leading proponent -- I don't think CVTs are better or worse than conventional automatics, so it isn't a positive or a negative to me. Regardless, this powertrain works very well in the Rogue, with plenty of power, effectively delivered, and still with good mileage: 22 miles per gallon city, 27 mpg highway, and that's the more severe 2008 EPA figure. Those numbers are for our test Rogue, which is front-wheel-drive; for an extra $1,200, you can get all-wheel-drive, but mileage drops by one mpg. This being a crossover, all-wheel-drive is useful for bad weather, but don't expect to do any serious off-roading. 크로스오버이므로 험로 주행을 기대하지는 말 것

On the road, the Rogue is quiet, the ride smooth. The test model was an uplevel SL (the S is the base vehicle), meaning it had, among other features, handsome 17-inch alloy wheels and plump tires.
